In the first days of the spring, from March 8 to 12, in the southern capital of Kazakhstan, Almaty, the Basketball Cup of the Republic of Kazakhstan among men's teams takes place. The opening ceremony of the Cup will be held at 15.30 pm at «Dostyk” Sports Complex.
According to the updated regulations of the National Basketball Federation, only Kazakh players take part in the Cup, foreign players do not have the right to participate. Six teams will take part in the championship this year. Three of them are members of the National League, and three of them play in the Major League: these are PBC Astana, Barsy Atyrau, Caspiy Aktau, Almaty Legion, Kapshagai, and Tobol.
On the first group stage, the teams will be divided into two groups «A» and «B», after the procedure the teams play games in their groups in one round. According to the results of the group stage, the teams, who took the third place in their groups, will play for the fifth place in the championship. The teams, who finish first and second accordingly in the groups, enter the semi-finals. Then, the games for the third and the first places of the tournament take place.
The capital basketball club has not participated in the Cup for the last two years. So far, the team from the southern capital «Almaty Legion» is the current champion of the Cup.
